The KLIK Awards

Every animated short has its own unique quality, of course. And still we ferociously kill our darlings and pick the very best for the prestigious KLIK Awards.

What do they win? A beautiful sculpture from Klaas-Harm de Boer, money to invest in their next prize-winning animated short (or to splurge on endless rounds of beers for all their collaborators), and most of all, eternal fame and fortune.

Jury member Emerging Animation Nations - Political Animated Shorts - Animated Documentaries

What company do you work for and what is your role in the company?

I’m an independent documentary filmmaker and I team up with various production companies. As a freelance writer and director I prefer to work on projects that I initiate myself. I feel that my films reach a higher standard and are more engaging when they origin from my own personal involvement for a specific topic.

Why did you say yes to the question: Would you be a jury member at KLIK?

I’m honored KLIK asked me to judge the categories ‘emerging animation nations’ and ‘animated documentaries’. I‘m involved in documentary and animation and very passionate about this hybrid form of filmmaking. I feel that animation lends itself well to this aspirational form. It has the freedom to represent, stylize or reimagine the world and creates opportunities to merge social relevant topics, graphics and art.

Beside that I’m very curious to see and find out how and what kind of engaging topics are addressed in these categories, as the films shown will for sure inspire me.

What are your expectations for KLIK Amsterdam Animation Festival 2016?

First to see great films, attend workshops and meet inspiring filmmakers from all over the world! Second to meet talented artists - animators as I’m looking for cooperation for my new animated documentary!
